Partial cubes without $Q_3^-$ minors

چکیده
We investigate the structure of isometric subgraphs of hypercubes (i.e., partial cubes) which do not contain finite convex subgraphs contractible to the 3-cube minus one vertex Q3 (here contraction means contracting the edges corresponding to the same coordinate of the hypercube). Extending similar results for median and cellular graphs, we show that the convex hull of an isometric cycle of such a graph is gated and isomorphic to the Cartesian product of edges and even cycles. Furthermore, we show that our graphs are exactly the class of partial cubes in which any finite convex subgraph can be obtained from the Cartesian products of edges and even cycles via successive gated amalgams. This decomposition result enables us to establish a variety of results. In particular, it yields that our class of graphs generalizes median and cellular graphs, which motivates naming our graphs hypercellular. Furthermore, we show that hypercellular graphs are tope graphs of zonotopal complexes of oriented matroids. Finally, we characterize hypercellular graphs as being median-cell – a property naturally generalizing the notion of median graphs.

Binary matroids without prisms, prism duals, and cubes
In this paper we determine completely the class of binary matroids with no minors isomor-phic to the cycle matroid of the prism graph M*(Ks\e), its dual M(Ks\e), and the binary affine cube AG(3, 2).
متن کاملA characterization of planar partial cubes
Partial cubes have been extensively investigated as well as planar graphs. In this note we introduce an additional topological kind of condition to the Chepoi’s expansion procedure that characterizes planar partial cubes. As a consequence we obtain a characterization of some other planar subclasses of partial cubes.
متن کامل-graceful labelings of partial cubes
7 Partial cubes are graphs that allow isometric embeddings into hypercubes. -graceful labelings of partial cubes are introduced as a natural extension of graceful labelings of trees. It is shown that several classes of partial cubes are -graceful, for instance even 9 cycles, Fibonacci cubes, and (newly introduced) lexicographic subcubes. The Cartesian product of -graceful partial cubes is again...
متن کاملEdge-critical isometric subgraphs of hypercubes
Isometric subgraphs of hypercubes are known as partial cubes. Edge-critical partial cubes are introduced as the partial cubes G for which G e is not a partial cube for any edge e of G. An expansion theorem is proved by means of which one can generate many edge-critical partial cubes. Edge-critical partial cubes are characterized among the Cartesian product graphs. We also show that the 3-cube a...
متن کاملTribes of Cubic Partial Cubes
Partial cubes are graphs isometrically embeddable into hypercubes. Three infinite families and a few sporadic examples of cubic partial cubes are known. The concept of a tribe is introduced as means to systematize the known examples and establish relations among them. Efficient methods of computation of tribes are developed and several concrete tribes, that include known, as well as new cubic p...
